Philip A. Packer

Phil associated with the firm following his retirement from BYU-Idaho in late 2016. He provides transactional support to the firm’s clients primarily in the areas of real estate, business purchase and sales transactions, corporations and limited liability companies, estate planning and general business law.

He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah, and is a member of the Idaho and Utah bar associations. The Utah license is presently on inactive status.

He has been involved in the private practice of law from 1982 to the present, with four years in-house as franchise counsel for Help-U-Sell Real Estate in Salt Lake City. In addition, Phil worked in management for businesses owned by Jon Huntsman for the first four years after law school, and later was a state owner with the Heaven’s Best franchise system.

From 1994 to the end of fall semester 2016, Phil served on the faculty and as an administrator at Ricks College and then BYU-Idaho. As a faculty member he taught a variety of courses in the Business Management Department such as business law, introduction to finance, small business management and real estate. He was appointed Associate Academic Vice President-Instruction from 2002 – 2009, and was involved as the liaison between the university and city government for about five years after returning to the faculty. He also served one term on the Madison County Planning and Zoning Commission.

He and his wife, Pat, are the parents of eight children and have thirty grandchildren. There is never much time for recreation, but he still enjoys a run on the Rexburg bench in the summer and a walk in the woods.
